Cheapest plug-in hybrid car with a range of 100 km
The cheapest plug-in hybrid car, which offers a purely electric range of more than 100 kilometers, is the Volkswagen Tiguan in Germany in 2024, with a starting price of just under 49,000 euros. Thanks to the battery with a capacity of 19.7 kWh, the plug-in hybrid SUV enables a range of between 119 and 129 kilometres in electric mode, depending on the engine and the equipment variant, with a power consumption of 16.7 to 17.8 kilowatts per 100 kilometres. Practically, the empty battery of the VW Tiguan can be recharged to 80 percent within just 26 minutes via the CCS connection using the standard DC charging system with a maximum charging power of 40 kW at a DC fast charging station.
Plug-in hybrid cars with ranges of more than 100 km
Of course, plug-in hybrid cars can only achieve the long electric ranges of more than 100 kilometers by using the appropriately dimensioned batteries. The current car models with a plug-in hybrid drive in comparison house batteries with an energy content from around 19.0 kWh (BMW, VW) to 25.4 kWh (Mercedes-Benz) to 31.8 kWh (Land Rover/Range Rover). In view of the electricity consumption between 15.9 kWh at best (VW Passat) and a maximum of about 30.0 kWh per 100 kilometres, the WLTP test cycle results in ranges of over 100 kilometres with the electric drive alone and without the use of the combustion engine. If the two drive types are used, plug-in hybrids with a Mercedes-Benz diesel engine drive the furthest before refuelling or charging is required.
