Kia EV6 driving impressions – The best electric car on the market?
The Kia EV6 has been on the market for a few years now and has been revised for 2025. A closer look at the changes and how they have affected the electric car.
One of our favorite e-SUVs has gotten a facelift, the Kia EV6. More prominent headlights, an angled front bumper and the characteristic LED light bar at the rear characterize the design of the EV6. These exterior innovations make the EV6 look even more futuristic and attract attention.
A modern design also greets you inside, with the main focus on the 12.3-inch touchscreen, which comes in a curved design and is therefore easy and clear to use. Kia's decision to keep physical buttons for important functions also helps. After all, easy access to control the air conditioning is better than digging through different menus on the screen.
Storage space is another strong point of the Kia EV6. At the front of the cab, there is not only the large compartment in the center console, but also two cup holders, plenty of space in the doors and a wireless charging surface for your cell phone. The rear is also comfortable with plenty of legroom, but taller passengers might be bothered by the lower roofline. Even three adults can find space in the back, as the flat base is more spacious. It gets really comfortable with two people in the back, then the adjustable backrest and the fold-down armrest can also come into their own.
The trunk fits a practical 490 liters, but this is slightly less than a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or a VW ID.5. In return, the Kia offers a frunk to accommodate the charging cables in a space-saving way.
With the improved 85 kWh battery, the new EV6 has a range of up to 582 km, depending on the model. In actual daily use, the range is likely to be limited to 450 to 480 km, but this is still a pretty good value. Even if a Peugeot E-3008 probably gets further in one charge. On the other hand, the EV6 charges with up to 258 kW charging power and therefore needs just 18 minutes to charge from 10 to 80% charging. Perfect for a coffee break on the go. The EV6 also charges at home with good performance and is also recharged after 12 hours with 7 kW.
Longer journeys are surprisingly pleasant in the EV6. The suspension is well balanced, so that neither potholes nor switchbacks upset the EV6. In urban areas, the intuitive steering and recuperation ensure effortless passage, while on the motorways the EV6 glides along confidently.
The list price of the EV6 starts at 44,990 euros for the "Air" trim level. This is already amazingly well equipped with heated seats, adaptive cruise control and wireless mobile phone integration. For an extra charge, the GT-Line already includes imitation leather seats, a head-up display and other luxurious optional extras. The safety of the EV6 is also completely safe with five stars from Euro NCAP and numerous assistance systems
Good design, plenty of space and a surprising amount of driving pleasure make the Kia EV6 one of the best in the electric SUV segment. E-car does not necessarily mean that you have to make compromises in terms of design, suitability for everyday use or performance. Even in terms of price, the Kia EV6 is more than just competitive.
